RM40bil needed to check floods

A staggering RM40bil is needed to remedy all the flood problems in the country, said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Douglas Uggah Embas.However, the Government was still short in flood mitigation projects with only RM2.4bil allocated so far under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

“So, we have to be creative and innovative when dealing with floods,” he told reporters after opening a seminar on “Climate Change: Adaptation or Mitigation, Do We Have a Choice?” organised by Centre for Environment, Technology and Development, Malaysia (Cetdem) here yesterday.

The Centre for Environment, Technology & Development, received the National Energy Globe Award Malaysia for its outstanding green building project DDC House.

The ENERGY GLOBE Award is today’s most prominent environmental prize worldwide. It distinguishes projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources such as energy and utilize renewable or emission-free sources.

CETDEM is organising the 2012 edition of the Climate Change Seminar with the title “ADAPTATION
OR MITIGATION – DO WE HAVE A CHOICE?”.
The Seminar is endorsed by the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment; Supported by EU Delegation to Malaysia, Malaysian Institute of Integrity & Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya.
