    Benefits of Solar Energy

MALAYSIANS have yet to discover the advantages of the feed-in-tariff (FIT) programme which gives them the opportunity to become independent power producers. “Under the programme, house owners sign a contract with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to sell electricity to it,” said Centre for Environment Technology and Development Malaysia (Cetdem) executive director Anthony Tan. “The solar energy is produced when the owners install Photovoltaic (PV) panels on the roofs of their homes,” he said.

Ms Tan Siew Luang, CETDEM Organic Farming Project Coordinator, will be going to Georgetown to give a TALK on how to do your own composting (complete with demonstration) and kitchen gardening.

Organic waste (from the Kitchen and Garden) which makes up about 47% of waste generated by the Malaysian household, will usually end up in a landfill. As the organic material rots in the landfill, the greenhouse gas methane is released. What can you help address this ? YES, the answer is COMPOSTING !


CETDEM’s Farmer’s Corner was held on Sunday, 16 February 2014 at the OFCC

Notice: DUE TO THE RAINY WEATHER, there might not be any organic vegetables or fruits available during the Farmer’s Corner. However, the usual sales of organic seeds, seedlings, compost and fertilizer will carry on as normal. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

An event that happens every 3rd week of the month except on public holidays and when it does not clash with our major events. If you are looking for fresh, affordable organic vegetables and some delicious breads/quick breads, this is the place for you! Let’s see if we can serve you an exciting scrumptious breakfast on that morning!! Interested?

Vegetable seeds/seedlings, organic fertilizer, compost and compost bins are available for sale.
The Objectives of this small farmer’s corner include:

* To Cater specifically for small organic farmers as an outlet to market their produce.
* To Cultivate closer relationships/trust amongst farmers and consumers.
* To Provide fresh and affordable organically grown vegetables to consumers.
